Since the early 1990’s, educator Brian Barrer has used photographic assemblage to metaphorically capture the ironies, pleasantries, and tragedies of everyday life. Receiving recognition regionally, nationally and internationally for his work, Quest Art will present Barrer’s “red balloon” series of digital prints begun in 2011, which continues to grow with the continued expanse of his visual vocabulary. These surreal works fuse playful abstractions with the intensified realism of humanity. Often starting with landscapes or environments that provide the opportunity for a story, Barrer strives to juxtapose imagery to arrive at pictorial narratives that evoke feelings while speaking to the limitless nature of imagination, and in contrast, dreams never fully realized. Brian Barrer’s work is collected worldwide. He lives and works in Barrie, Ontario.
